BENGALURU: The has decided to implement its earlier proposal to restrict in if there’s no parking facility.

said before taking such a harsh step, the department will launch an awareness drive for a year to persuade people to use public transport or go in for carpooling. After a year, the department will restrict vehicle registration.

We need to address this issue on priority and using public transport and carpooling are the only solutions to this. I seek public support in this regard,” he said.

The proposed restrictions include banning registration of diesel vehicles and allowing new vehicles only if owners have parking space.

The department will soon introduce 80 electric buses in Bengaluru. “The Centre has already sanctioned 80 buses and we are seeking 70 more. We’ll also seek financial help from the Union environment ministry to buy more electric buses,” he added.
