Cabbie dies as truck with bricks falls on taxi

BENGALURU: A cabbie after a fell on his taxi on on Tuesday night. However, the three passengers travelling in the cab had a miraculous escape.

The accident occurred at 1:15am on Nagawara bridge when the front wheel of the truck got punctured. The driver lost control over the vehicle and, as a result, it hit the retaining wall of the bridge. The truck came to a halt after its front portion went over the retaining wall and leaned on to the left side.

Meanwhile, the cab coming from behind swerved left to avoid crashing into the truck ahead and tried to zoom past. However, even before cab driver Pratap S, 26, could react, the precariously leaning truck fell on the car.

Sensing danger, the passengers — Amazon employees Sharavana, Chethan and another yet-to-be identified person — got off the car and ran to safety, police sources said. Pratap, a resident of Lottegollahalli, could not pull himself out immediately as he was struggling to detach the seat belt. By the time he got out of the car, he had suffered injuries. He was shifted to a private hospital, but succumbed to injuries. Banasawadi traffic police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

2 helmetless youths die as rider loses control of speeding bike

Two youths, riding a high-end sports bike in a rash and negligent manner, were killed on KIA Road, Anandanagar Cross late Tuesday night. The two were on the way to Hebbal Kempapura.

Sara Fathima, DCP (traffic north), said the deceased are Suhas, 25, a resident of Palace Guttahalli, and his friend Gautam Raj, 23, a resident of Hebbal Kempapura.

She said the accident occurred when Suhas was on the way to drop Raj to his home at 11.45pm. Suhas lost control over the vehicle due to speeding and both fell on the road, resulting in head injuries. Preliminary probe revealed the two were not wearing helmets.
