DMCH patients complete 5-day fitness camp

LUDHIANA: In view of International Yoga Day, around 150 patients along with their spouses performed yoga in the Dumra auditorium of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.

The hospital had also organized a five-day yoga camp from June 18 to 22.

The session was graced by principal Dr Sandeep Puri, chief cardiologist Dr G S Wander and cardiologist Dr Bishav Mohan along with former DMCH principal Dr Daljit Singh, yoga consultant Dr Sanjeev Rawat and Dr Kalpana, yoga co-coordinator of International Research Study.

DMCH and Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) celebrated the with the gathering of 150 patients accompanied by their spouses. These patients are a part of the first largest international research study which has been conducted by the HDHI under the supervision of cardiologist Dr Bishav Mohan.

Describing the study Mohan said, “We have been conducting this study since 2014 with the objective of developing a yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation programme ‘Yoga-CaRe’, to test its effectiveness and cost effectiveness in the patients with acute in a randomized controlled clinical trial in India, and to explore the mechanisms underlying any beneficial effects of Yoga-CaRe by detailed physiological and metabolic tests in a parallel study in UK, in which 700 cardiac patients (both IPD & OPD) are included.

All the investigations have been done free of cost with regular telephonic follow ups on the well-being of the patients.

Various asanas — Savasana, Tadasana, Vakarasana, Katichakra, Bajjarasana, Naadi shodan and Pranayam were demonstrated by yoga Rawat and Kalpana.

Secretary of DMCH managing society Prem Kumar Gupta informed that the hospital has been regularly observing International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm. He appreciated the work of all team members who are a part of the research study and wished them luck for the future.

Puri and Wander motivated all to practice yoga every day while highlighting its benefits.

Former principal Singh and Mohan said that DMCH and HDHI run a full-fledged yoga consultation service for the treatment of ailing patients admitted at the facilities. Many patients who are practising yoga daily shared their views on the healthy regime.
