IB officer was murdered by wife’s paramour, claim cops

KOTA: Solving the more than four-month-old mystery over suspicious death of an intelligence bureau (IB) officer posted in New Delhi, the police arrested one person late on Tuesday and produced him before the court on Wednesday.
The police said, three more persons, including a constable posted with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jhalawar, are yet to be nabbed. The constable is said to be the key accused behind the murder of the .

Illicit relation between the ACB constable, identified as Praveen Chand Rathore (30), and the IB officer’s wife was the prime reason behind the murder, the police claimed on Wednesday.

IB officer Chetan Prakesh Galav (32), a resident of Housing board colony in Jhalawar and posted in New Delhi, was murdered on February 14. His body was found under suspicious circumstances near Ralayeta railway overbridge under the Jhalawar Sadar police station area. Local police initially booked the case under CrPC Section 174 but the deceased IB officer’s father filed a petition in court suspecting murder.

“When the police investigated the death as murder, the suspicion was found to be true and the culprits were identified,” said Anand Sharma, the Jhalawar Superintend of Police.

“Constable Rathore was into illicit relationship with IB officer’s wife Anita but the duo projected their relationship to be that of brother-sister,” said Sanjay Prasad Meena, the SHO of Sadar police station. As per police, the IB officer used to come home in Jhalawar from duty in New Delhi once a month, while Rathore used to frequent the officer’s home. The IB officer and his father had objected to Rathore’s frequent visits but in vain, the SHO said.

“The ACB constable eventually hatched a conspiracy to eliminate the IB officer and hired Shaharukh (25), an RTO agent in Jhalawar, for Rs 3 lakh for the murder,” the SHO said. Shaharukh, in turn, allegedly hired two other youths Price and Farahan, aged between 22 and 25, from his area for the murder.

As per the police, the four accused made four attempts to kill the IB officer at various places in New Delhi. They allegedly tried to kill him in a running train and by hitting him with moving a truck but every time they failed, the police said.

In their second and fourth attempts, the four youths allegedly hired a truck driver Shakir for Rs 20,000 to kill the officer but the IB officer escaped with minor injuries both times.

“Accident cases in this connection are already lodged with the police; now IPC sections related to attempt to murder be added in those cases,” the SHO said.

In their 5th attempt, the four accused abducted the IB officer from the Housing Board colony area on February 14 evening when the latter got off the train at Jhalawar railway station.

“The gang took the officer to a nearby forest in a van and administered him with heavy doses of two ketamine injections, which chocked his breathing and killed him on the spot,” the SHO said. The four later dumped the body near Ralayeta railway overbridge.

Police arrested Shaharukh (25) from his home in Jhalawar on Tuesday and produced him before the court on Wednesday. In primary interrogation, Shaharukh has admitted to have murdered the IB officer, SHO Meena said.

Police are now looking for the three other accused, including constable Rathore. The deceased IB officer’s wife Anita too is under suspicion and is likely to be booked for criminal conspiracy, the SHO added.
