Public Library welcomes soccer fans

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The festive air from Sochi has already turned the city into one huge fans’ club. From automobiles carrying flags of different nations to people wearing team jerseys to work, the flavour of the World Cup is everywhere in town.
The State Central Library is also part of the action with their exclusive ‘Ormakalileykoru Jalakam’ rack at the entrance right next to the cash counter dedicated exclusively to World Cup and football books.

A poster on the rack invites the visitors to join in on the festivity by immersing themselves into the world of football and World Cup, to learn the history, art and literature of the beautiful game. The library also welcomes visitors’ to share information and experiences regarding the historical tournament.

“The section is dedicated exclusively to special events. The rack will be football exclusive unless an important date or event connected to the state happens,” said Manju P L, Grade I librarian.

The rack currently features around 10 books, which include and English books by authors like Luca Caioli, , , Bhasi Malaparambil and so on.

According to librarian (Malayalam section) Biju Kurayilkunnu, there are approximately around 200 books, including 50 Malayalam books, dedicated to football in the sports section. The section is comprises mostly English books and they are also in good demand, thanks to the World Cup season.” This is the first time that the State Central Library has come up with such an initiative, said Biju.
