RTI activist accuses ex-CM, three officials of land grab

MYSURU: An RTI activist has accused former chief minister and three officials of fraudulently getting a parcel of land in the city in a 30-year-old case. The activist, N Gangaraju, has filed a complaint before the principal senior civil court, and has named the former CM, former Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairpersons and commissioners.

MUDA commissioner Kantharaju denied any illegality in the case. Police commissioner A Subramaneshwara Rao said they haven’t received any court directive to file FIR against the accused.

In 1988, MUDA acquired 535 acres of agricultural land in Vijayanagar II Stage coming under the Hinkal to formalayout.Panchayat president Papanna had appealed to the former CM not to acquire 30 guntas of land owned by his aunt Sakamma, brother Annaiah and wife Sunanda. MUDA, which had developed the layout, denotified (or released) 30 guntas of land.

In his complaint, Gangaraju has claimed that about 10 guntas in an agricultural property (survey No. 70/4A) in Hinkal village of Mysuru taluk belonged to Sakamma, who filed an application before the deputy commissioner in October 1997 to convert the land-use pattern to non-agricultural purposes. Within 20 days, her request was conceded. Later, MUDA confirmed it hadn’t acquired their property, and allowed Sakamma, Sunanda and Annaiah to construct houses on the land.

Gangaraju alleged that Sakamma, instead of constructing a house, allegedly sold her property to Siddaramaiah, who also allegedly bought a neighbouring site (120ftx85ft).

The activist alleged that Siddaramaiahsoldhishousebuilton thatlandto a businessman in 2003. In the meantime, MUDA had given Sakamma an alternative site. The incident came to light in November 2017 when late Annaiah’s son Krishna submitted an application totheMUDAfor an alternative site next to the parcel of land the family held in survey No. 70/4A. The RTI activist claimed MUDA chairman Dhruva Kumar had, in March 2018, allegedly decidedto allot a sitetoKrishna.

Gangaraju accused the former CM and the MUDA chief of usurping government property and denotifying 30 guntas of land.
